Available Services

Physical Exams
During our standard exam, we’ll review your horse’s medical history, check his or her heart, lungs, stomach sounds, eyes and mouth. We’ll make recommendations for optimal care and diet, and ensure your horse is current on vaccinations.

Diagnostic Testing
Dr. Dan Kirby and our staff are always continuing their education to keep up on the latest breakthroughs in diagnostic testing. Tests may require:

  • Blood, stool or urine samples
  • Using special instruments to test your horse’s eyes
  • X-rays
  • Biopsies
  • Other techniques used to diagnose a wide range of health conditions

Deworming and Treatment for Internal Parasites
Unfortunately, all horses are susceptible to worms and other internal parasites. Regular deworming is a crucial part of your horse’s health. We’ll review your current regimen of deworming medications and possibly prescribe new ones.

Treatment for Infectious Diseases
We strive to avoid serious problems before they happen, administering vaccinations for tetanus, equine encephalomyelitis and other preventable infectious diseases. Nonetheless, if your horse contracts an infectious disease, such as strangles or Potomac horse fever, we deliver state-of-the-art treatment to minimize damage and restore health.

Treatment for Injury or Trauma
When your horse has an accident and suffers an injury or other trauma, Alamo Heights Pet Clinic is there for you. Whether it’s a head injury, broken bone, wound or exertional rhabdomyolysis, we’ll prescribe the best medications and therapies to keep your horse comfortable and speed up the healing process.

Treatment for Congenital Conditions
Some horses may have a congenital condition, ranging from hypothyroidism to stationary night blindness. We’ll diagnose your horse’s problems and make our best treatment recommendations.
